PayPal, in partnership with eBay, sponsored and supported the inaugural ASEAN E-Commerce Summit at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore on March 6th. PayPal hosted more than 30 government officials from various Southeast Asian countries at the Summit. Nagesh Devata, PayPal Director for Southeast Asia SMB Core Merchants and Channels, delivered the opening remarks and Phoram Mehta, PayPal APAC Head of InfoSecurity, conducted a session on cybersecurity. Suu Wei Ho from Southeast Asia Government Relations delivered the closing remarks at the end of the event.
The full-day event provided an excellent opportunity for various senior government leaders, each of whom are responsible for e-commerce policies in their respective jurisdictions, to gather and exchange views, as well as learn from industry professionals and academics who have extensive expertise in their fields. PayPal had productive engagements and discussions with many of these government leaders, including officials from the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry, Malaysia Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, Office of the Indonesia President and Thailand Electronic Transactions Development Authority.
In conclusion, our cross-functional efforts in supporting the event has allowed PayPal to demonstrate thought leadership in e-commerce and e-payments, as well as build strong relationships with the key e-commerce policymakers in the region.
