At PayPal, we have a strong small business empowerment message to share. We prioritize our merchants by providing financial services and tools that help them compete in the globally connected economy. Our team is engaged in a number of initiatives around the world, some in partnership with local governments, to champion small business success and empower underserved entrepreneurs. We also aim to leverage the voice of our small businesses as advocates for their community. Our Small Business Advocacy Delegation is a community of small business owners who advocate for the interests of other entrepreneurs on the issues that matter to them as well as PayPal.
This May marks the 4th annual PayPal Small Business Month which is a moment in the year where PayPal can celebrate small businesses and recognize their tremendous impact on the global economy. Small businesses are core to PayPal's DNA and we are proud to support over 30 million merchants around the world. PayPal Small Business Month comprises direct support for entrepreneurs through educational resources, content throughout the month showcasing small business stories and engaging governments to advocate for a policy framework that enables small business success.
PayPal in partnership with National League of Cities (NLC) and the U.S. Conference of Mayors has engaged in an effort to empower small business success and recovery on a local level. Small businesses are critical to local communities, creating jobs and fostering a healthy economy. Engaging with state and local leaders will drive more public-private partnership to reach the most underrepresented communities of entrepreneurs.
PayPal has launched a partnership with the 3 largest diverse Chambers of Commerce in the U.S., the U.S. Black Chamber, U.S. Hispanic Chamber and Asian/Pacific Islander Chamber, as part of our $535M commitment to address systemic racism and support small businesses of color. The initiative will also engage the Reimagine Main Street initiative which was established with the mission of empowering underrepresented entrepreneurs. The initiative is built with the purpose of directly impact these minority entrepreneurs as well as advocating for and crafting policy that creates an equitable framework for small businesses of color.
PayPal and AmCham HK have collaborated to launch the PayPal Center of Excellence for Small Business (COEX) on Friday, January 29. To assist Hong Kong with COVID-19 recovery, COEX aims to provide information and resources on business intelligence, trends, and a platform for SMEs. This initiative will increase PayPal’s visibility and thought leadership with industry and government through various programs and potentially expand commercial opportunities with SMEs.
Extending PayPal’s small business lending programs in the U.S., UK, Germany and Australia, PayPal has entered into partnerships with Captalys, Konfio and Flexiloans to offer financing lines in Brazil, Mexico and India respectively. This will further facilitate access to cash and liquidity for micro and small businesses facing economic recovery and struggle to accessInifinancing from traditional institutions.
In India, PayPal partnered with state governments, the Central Government in New Delhi and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CIIE) to support micro and small businesses on the local level. The goal was to highlight how PayPal, and digitization generally, can take India’s local MSMEs and connect them to a global economy. With experts and government participants, we also aim to drive discussions on conducive policy and regulatory ecosystems for small business ecosystems to grow with all stakeholders coming together.
